Myth Or Fact: Are Ants Able To Make Their Way To Your Brain To Slowly Start Eating Away

People have claimed that if anything sweet is left near your face upon falling asleep, that ants will then be able to crawl into your ear, make their home then slowly eat their way through to the brain, eventually the person dies from the ants eating away at their brain.

Incident One: A little boy died because surgeons found ants in his brain. Apparently this boy fell asleep with some sweets in his mouth or with some sweet stuff beside him. Ants soon got to him and some ants in fact crawled into his ear which somehow managed to go to his brain. When he awoke, he did not realize that ants had gone to his head.

After that, he constantly complained about itchiness around his face. His mother brought him to the doctor, but the doctor could not figure out what was wrong with him. He took and x-ray of the boy and to his horror; he found a group of live ants in his skull. Since the ants were alive, the doctor could not operate on him because the ants were constantly moving around. The boy finally died.

So please be careful when leaving food stuff near your bed or when eating in bed. This might attract ants. Most importantly, NEVER eat sweets before going to bed. You or your child might attract ants while you are asleep.

Is there any truth in this myth? Luckily it is no more than just a story, here is why. Ants are unable to make their way into a living human brain via the ears, due to our brain having a number of defence mechanisms to prevent any such thing happening. If it were possible for the ants to enter into your brain they wouldn't be able to survive once there.

Ants are able to find their way into human ears, but it is usually by accident. If anyone ever has had an ant or insect in their ear then you will know how unpleasant that feeling is. Having them within your ear can be irritating as they frantically try to find a way out. Even if asleep you would subsequently awaken if several ants were crawling within your ear.

Ants are one of the most common insects, if such a thing was to happen, then there would be many reported incidences around the world. For peace of mind from ants this summer season then call SWATAPEST on 9313 8484
